Netflix Watch Party

Watch Netflix Together with Your Partner

Long-distance movie nights shouldn't mean one of you watching five seconds ahead. SyncCouch is a free Chrome extension that keeps Netflix playback locked in step — play, pause, seek, and every accidental Skip Intro tap — while your partner's face sits in a picture-in-picture window beside the show. No screen sharing, no laggy mirrors, no 480p quality tax. Both of you stream Netflix directly from your own accounts in full resolution, while SyncCouch syncs the clock between browsers in under 300ms. Works on Netflix in India, the US, the UK, and every region Netflix supports.

Platform-specific features that make your watch party seamless.

Skip Intro & Recap Sync

When either of you clicks Skip Intro or Skip Recap, SyncCouch detects the seek event and keeps both players perfectly aligned — no more watching the opening credits alone.

Cadmium Player Detection

SyncCouch uses MutationObserver to detect Netflix's Cadmium player, handling DOM re-mounts between episodes, ads, and previews without breaking sync.

Video Chat While Watching

See your partner's reactions in a draggable picture-in-picture window. 30 minutes free per week — perfect for a weekend movie night.

What to know about Netflix + SyncCouch

Netflix uses its custom Cadmium HTML5 player, which re-mounts the video element several times during a viewing session — after the intro, between episodes, and when ads finish on the ad-supported tier. SyncCouch handles this with a MutationObserver that re-attaches automatically, so you won't see sync break when the next episode auto-plays. A few things that trip people up on Netflix specifically: (1) If one partner has auto-play next episode on and the other doesn't, the person with it on will jump to episode 2 solo — turn it on for both or off for both. (2) The Skip Intro button fires a seek event SyncCouch detects and mirrors, so whoever taps it first, you both skip. (3) Netflix's Watch Party cast feature and Teleparty will conflict with SyncCouch — disable those before starting a room. (4) Netflix audio-description and closed-caption toggles are local preferences and don't sync; choose them independently. (5) Netflix profile switches do not break sync, but starting a show from a different profile's 'Continue Watching' position will — manually seek to the same timestamp after joining a room.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does SyncCouch sync Netflix?

SyncCouch uses a Chrome extension that detects your Netflix video player and syncs play, pause, and seek actions with your partner in real time — under 300ms latency. It only interacts with the public HTML5 video API and never touches the video stream, the DRM layer, or Netflix's servers.

Do both people need a Netflix account?

Yes, both you and your partner need your own Netflix subscription on the same tier or higher. SyncCouch syncs playback between two browsers — it does not share, mirror, or stream video content between you.

Does SyncCouch work with Netflix's Skip Intro button?

Yes. When either person clicks Skip Intro or Skip Recap, SyncCouch detects the resulting seek event and keeps both players aligned automatically. You don't have to coordinate — whoever taps it first triggers it for both.

Will Netflix ban me for using SyncCouch?

SyncCouch does not circumvent DRM, access the video stream, or violate Netflix's terms of service. It only reads standard HTML5 video API properties (currentTime, paused) and triggers standard UI actions. This is the same technique Teleparty has used on Netflix for over 6 years without a single account suspension reported.

Does it work with multiple Netflix profiles?

Yes, but both partners should start the show from matching timestamps. Netflix's 'Continue Watching' position is per-profile, so if one profile is at 12:30 and the other at 00:00, you'll desync until you manually seek to the same point.

Does the Netflix ad-supported tier affect sync?

Ads appear on a separate video element on the ad-supported tier, and ad timing differs between accounts. SyncCouch pauses sync during ads and re-engages when the content player returns. Both of you see your own ads, and sync resumes seamlessly when the show does.

Can we watch Netflix in 4K together?

Yes. SyncCouch doesn't affect video quality — each person streams directly from Netflix at whatever quality their subscription and connection support. 4K works, HDR works, Dolby Atmos works. You're both watching native Netflix, just synchronized.

What if the Netflix player reloads mid-episode?

SyncCouch uses a MutationObserver to detect player re-mounts and automatically re-attaches within a few hundred milliseconds. You won't notice — the sync resumes from the new player instance without a room disconnect.

Does it work on the Netflix mobile site or app?

SyncCouch works on Netflix's desktop web player at netflix.com in any Chromium-based browser. The Netflix mobile app and TV app are not supported because Chrome extensions don't run there. Use a laptop or desktop for the synchronized experience.

Is SyncCouch free?

SyncCouch is free to use. Playback sync, text chat, voice chat, emoji reactions, and AI recommendations are all free. Video chat has a free tier of 30 minutes per week — enough for a weekend movie night — with paid upgrades coming later.

Does it work on Edge or Brave?

Yes. SyncCouch works on any Chromium-based browser including Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, and Vivaldi (version 116+). Firefox is not currently supported because SyncCouch uses Chrome extension APIs that Firefox implements differently — a Firefox build is on the roadmap.
