How does SyncCouch sync JioHotstar?
SyncCouch is a Chrome extension that runs on JioHotstar's website, hotstar.com. Play, pause, seek, and playback speed sync both ways between you and your partner. When either of you hits an ad break the other waits, and when the ads end you carry on together. The mobile and TV apps are not supported.
Do both people need a JioHotstar subscription?
Both users need access to JioHotstar, through their own account. The plan doesn't matter — free, premium, or a Jio bundle. SyncCouch syncs playback — it does not share or stream video content between accounts.
What happens during ad breaks on the free tier?
Each of you gets your own ads, and they can be different lengths. When either of you hits an ad break, the other's video pauses and waits; when the ads end, you carry on together on the same scene. On plans without ads there are no breaks to wait for.
Does SyncCouch work with live sports on JioHotstar?
Not yet. Live streams — live cricket, IPL, 24-hour live channels — can't be synced: every viewer's live stream runs on its own clock, so there's no shared position. On-demand videos — films, serials, shows, and sports highlights — work.
Can I use SyncCouch from outside India?
SyncCouch works wherever JioHotstar itself works. The bigger limitation is JioHotstar's regional licensing — many titles are geo-fenced to India only, and a VPN may break playback. Confirm the title is available to both partners before starting a room.
Does it work with JioHotstar Bollywood films?
Yes. On-demand content — Bollywood films, regional films, serials, and shows — works. The exception is live streams, which can't be synced yet.
Does SyncCouch work with multi-audio tracks (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu dubs)?
Audio track and subtitle choices are your own and aren't shared — one of you can watch the Tamil dub while the other watches Hindi.
Will it work with a Jio Fiber or Jio SIM bundled plan?
Yes. Plan source doesn't matter — free, premium, or a Jio bundle — it's the same JioHotstar website, hotstar.com. On plans without ads there are no breaks to wait for.
Is SyncCouch free?
SyncCouch is free to use. Playback sync, text chat, voice chat, and emoji reactions are all free, and video chat is free and unlimited. AI recommendations are coming soon in the next update.
Does it work on Edge or Brave?
Yes. SyncCouch works on any Chromium-based browser including Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, and Vivaldi (version 116+). Firefox is not currently supported because SyncCouch uses Chrome extension APIs that Firefox implements differently — a Firefox build is on the roadmap.
